Austin Hot Tub Cleaning & Maintenance
A hot tub can add a lot of character and enjoyment to any property but it doesn’t come without a lot of hard work. Unlike a basic bathtub that can be refilled and emptied with every use a hot tub or swim spa needs a specialized treatment plan with specialized tools to keep it in good condition. Calling Puddle for your Austin hot tub maintenance means all of the enjoyment with none of the effort. We’ll skim, scrub and treat water systems so you don’t have to!
Maintaining a hot tub seems simple enough: toss in chemicals, skim out unwanted items floating along water surfaces and scrub the sides, right? If only it were that easy! Keeping your system running smoothly means keeping up with a regular cleaning routine, seasonal care and having to buy and store a ton of equipment and chemicals. If this sounds tough, you’re right! Luckily, our team of local Puddle technicians are here to help!
Hot Tub Care: More Than Just Chemicals
Pool supply stores are a dime a dozen and it’s easy to stock up on basic test strips and buckets of chemicals. These might be helpful in their own way but they aren’t enough to keep your water systems clean and running smoothly. Keeping a tub in great shape means cleaning the areas that you can see, as well as the ones that you can’t. Internal water systems are tricky to maintain and that is why it’s always better to call an expert.
When you want to keep your hot tub cleaner it’s always best to take a multi-step approach. This means taking a step-by-step approach that covers surfaces, water condition and internal plumbing lines. If that sounds tricky, don’t worry — we’ve got you covered!
Debris Removal: Hot tubs are complex structures with seats, steps and complicated areas. With this in mind you can’t expect a standard pool vacuum to suck up unwanted items. Getting rid of debris in hard to reach areas requires a specialty hand-held model that takes in water and debris, separates them and holds onto unwanted items. Don’t bother spending your money on equipment and your time on cleaning when a local Puddle Pro will bring everything needed along with us!
Spa Water Treatments: Applying hot tub chemicals isn’t as easy as just throwing in a couple of pucks and hoping for the best. An imbalanced tub will start to go cloudy, green, smelly and eventually algae growth will start to take over. Puddle technicians keep water clean with regular testing and balancing. This means looking at chlorine levels as well as total alkalinity, pH levels and calcium.
Internal Water Systems: Hot tub plumbing is often out of sight and out of mind but keeping these systems in great shape is key to maintaining good condition. Puddle technicians flush return lines and check hot tub filters with every service. A full filter makes it harder for water to circulate through lines and components. This puts added strain on pumps and can shorten the lifespan of your equipment.
Seasonal Care: Even with a regular cleaning program it’s important to deep clean tubs or swim spas once or potentially twice a year. This process doesn’t just drain and refill your hot tub’s water, it uses a specialized combination of chemicals to loosen dirt, debris and buildup that has formed inside lines. These chemicals are applied when a hot tub is full and running. Once buildup is loosened it will flow into the basin which can then be emptied. Before you try to drain your hot tub on your own think about where all that water is going! Have a professional drain it for you. Once empty shells, seats, flooring, jets and headrests can be scrubbed clean. Once this is done it’s time to grab a garden hose and refill water!
Puddle Pool Services: Cleaning Your Hot Tub Made Easy
Anyone can throw on a hot tub cover but this isn’t enough to keep your water systems in good shape. When you want the best results, ditch the test kit and call a local Puddle technician. Having an expert test the water in your tub means proper balancing, better results and it makes it easier to enjoy your leisure time inside!
At Puddle we understand that every hot tub and spa is unique. With that, we create unique treatment plans made to suit your water system. For the average hot tub a bi-weekly cleaning is enough but if you are dealing with a high rate of use you might need cleanings more often than that. Puddle technicians account for rate of use, type of tub, surrounding plant life and climate when creating a cleaning plan.
Choosing Puddle means excellent results, great customer service, affordable rates and flexible treatment options. Schedule your next service online or by-phone 24 hours a day, no matter the time of year. Each member of the team is fully insured so you get peace of mind along with great service.
Austin Hot Tub Maintenance: Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to use my hot tub during pregnancy?
Most healthcare providers recommend pregnant users limit hot tub time to 10 minutes at 100 F or below, especially in the first trimester. Always consult your OB before using a hot tub during pregnancy.
Are your hot tub technicians certified and insured?
All Puddle Pools technicians are CPO trained with additional spa-specific training, and the company carries full general liability and workers’ compensation coverage. Crews arrive in uniformed branded vehicles.
How long should a hot tub cover last?
Standard insulated covers last 3 to 5 years. Signs of replacement include water absorption (cover gets heavy), torn vinyl skin, broken interior foam or compressed shape. A damaged cover doubles your heating cost.
How often should the hot tub filter be cleaned?
Routine rinse weekly when in heavy use, full chemical soak monthly during the high-use months and replacement every 12 to 18 months. We track filter pressure and condition on every visit.
Are there long-term hot tub service contracts?
No. Puddle Pools does not lock clients into long-term contracts. You can pause, cancel or change between weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or one-time service with reasonable notice and no cancellation fees.
How does hard tap water affect a hot tub?
Hard water builds calcium scale on the heater element, shell and filter much faster than soft water. The fix is more frequent draining, regular sequestrant use and pH on the lower end of the acceptable range.
Why does my hot tub water smell strongly of chlorine?
Strong chlorine smell is actually combined chlorine (chloramines), not free chlorine. It means free chlorine is consumed and combined chlorine is climbing. The fix is to oxidize the water with a non-chlorine shock or potassium monopersulfate (MPS) on a 2-week cycle.
What is the recommended hot tub water temperature?
Most users set tubs between 100 and 102 F (38 to 39 C). For health reasons stay below 104 F (40 C). For households with children or pregnant users we recommend 95 to 98 F (35 to 37 C) for shorter sessions.
How does Austin's Edwards Aquifer hard water affect hot tub maintenance?
Hot tubs in Austin are filled with Edwards Aquifer hard water at 200 to 350 ppm calcium hardness. Minerals concentrate as water evaporates, so calcium scale and high TDS develop faster than in soft-water regions. We recommend tighter drain-and-refill intervals (every 8 to 10 weeks instead of 3 to 4 months) and a sequestrant on every refill to keep the heater element and shell clean.
Which Austin neighborhoods do you serve for hot tub maintenance?
We service hot tubs across Austin and surrounding areas including Westlake, Tarrytown, Round Rock, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Cedar Park and Pflugerville. Free quote within one business day confirms coverage and scheduling if your address sits outside our existing routes.
