Leak Detection in Barrie, ON
Swimming pool leaks don’t just ruin your summer, they can ruin your whole year! Even a pinhole leak will lead to hundreds of litres of water seeping out of your pool basin and into the sensitive surrounding areas. When you want to avoid damage to the area, higher utility bills, undue strain to your system and a whole lot of headache, call Puddle for your Barrie pool leak detection services.
A small amount of water loss is normal throughout the course of a week. Everything from high heats and a large number of swimmers will have an impact on your water level but no more than several inches per week. If you are losing three inches of water a day, it is time to be concerned! Without the appropriate tools and technical training, it can feel impossible to find a leak. With every day that goes by the consequences of a leak get worse and worse so quick action is key to successful detection and treatment. Luckily, local pool pros are only a phone call away!
Is Your Pool Losing Water? How to Identify and Locate Leaks
For pool owners, leaks are just about the worst thing that can happen to your swim space. Whether it is a small tear in a pool liner, leaking pool equipment, corroded plumbing lines or structural damage, even a tiny leak means big damage. Underground leaks will displace soil, creating uneven weight dispersal that can cause breakage, while plumbing leaks put unnecessary strain on water systems and internal mechanisms which will lead to the need for costly repairs and replacements —not to mention the water bill!
Water leaks will often start off small at first, so they are difficult to detect. When dealing with an inground pool, dropping water levels are a sign of a leak, while an above ground pool might have water pooling or saturated lawns in the surrounding area. Treated pool water won’t just drown lawns, the chemicals will kill off grass and plant life.
The most common signs of pool leaks are a drop in water levels but just because you suspect a leak doesn’t mean that you will be able to find it. Aside from a visible tear in a vinyl liner or physical breakage, tracking down leaks is a complicated process. Luckily, our team of leak detection specialists come equipped with multiple options for detecting leaks that are structural or in plumbing lines and equipment.
Pressure testing uses a constant flow of air to travel through systems, alerting technicians to unseen leaks. If you begin to see air bubbles or hear gurgling sounds, it is a sign that there is a leak nearby or underground. If soil is saturated, you might even hear unusual sounds coming from the ground. These can be apparent or very quiet and require speciality listening equipment. A dye test uses coloured dyes to track down structural leaks. Dye weighs more than water so once the pool pump is switched off and colouring is strategically placed, it will be sucked into cracks and can be followed.
It might not be possible to go from leak detection to pool repair in 24 hours but the sooner you start, the better your result will be. The longer that leaks are allowed to persist, the worse the outcome is. Over time, pooling water will displace soil, increase water bills and put unnecessary strain on internal water systems, so call an expert at the first sign of a struggle.

Barrie Leak Detection: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I drain my pool in Barrie?
Barrie's Sewer Use By-law 2021-002 prohibits discharging chlorinated or salt water pool water in any amount to the municipal storm sewer, partly to protect Lake Simcoe. Pool water may go to the private sanitary sewer by a permanent or temporary connection or onto the ground where it soaks in. Any water reaching City property must be free of routine pool chemicals. Confirm with the City before draining.
Can I fill my pool during water restrictions in Barrie?
Under Barrie's Regulatory Matters By-law 2010-036, municipal water may not be used to fill any outside swimming pool, wading pool or outside hot tub during a Level Two Temporary Outdoor Water Restriction. Lawn watering on municipal water is also limited to odd or even days matching your address and banned from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Plan fills outside declared restrictions.
Which Barrie neighborhoods do you cover?
We look after pools across Barrie, including Allandale, Downtown Barrie, Ardagh Bluffs, Holly, East End and Painswick. The full list of areas is on our Barrie page. If you do not see yours, get in touch and we will confirm.
Is leak detection invasive? Will you need to dig up my yard?
Detection itself is non invasive. Pressure and dye testing are done from the pool and the equipment, without digging. Excavation only comes into the conversation if a leak is confirmed in an underground line, and then the testing tells us where to open up rather than searching blindly.
What happens if you find a leak?
We show you where it is and explain the repair options. Many leaks at fittings, skimmers, lights or small cracks can be repaired directly. Larger structural or underground plumbing repairs are quoted separately so you can decide with the full picture.
First season as pool owners and Puddle Pools made a steep learning curve manageable. Nicole in particular was excellent — always quick to respond, patient with my many questions, and genuinely helpful. They always stayed responsive and didn't nickel-and-dime us. Weekly service was consistent and the detailed reports with photos after each visit are a nice touch. Closing was handled well. Would definitely recommend, and I’m sure I will work with them again next season.
We had a really difficult time trying to find someone to start up our new salt water hot tub but puddle pools responded and got someone out immediately! Jordan was SO helpful and had amazing attention to detail. It was my first time owning a hot tub and he explained everything to me and made the process much less intimidating. You guys saved me so much stress and did an amazing job, thank you so much!
Regan and Nicole were fantastic. Quick responses and fixed my pool very quickly. Helped with all my concerns and reasonably priced as well.
Regan and Gordon did an excellent job opening up our pool for the summer (including patiently walking us through what they were doing and tips for maintaining both our pool and hot tub). We look forward to working with them again!
we get our hot tub serviced by Regan and the weekly maintenance has been great! would definitely recommend!!
Fantastic experience! Professional team, great communication, and top-quality work. Our pool turned out even better than we imagined. Highly recommend!

Moved into a new home 4 months ago with a pool and hot tub which we have never had before. It has been a bit of a learning curve. Puddle pools has great service and is very responsive. Got our pool going right away while we were waiting for our landlord to get a hot tub cover so we can start getting Puddle Pools to service it/clean it so we can start using it. By the time our landlord received the replacement hot tub cover we were deep into winter and the team at Puddle Pools not once gave up on helping to try and get it working despite how cold it is (negative temps) not to mention the insane amount of snow we felt defeated and advised the office to cancel our appointment, that we would just wait until the snow melted yet Reagan still showed up in a full snowsuit ready to belly climb under our deck to do what needed to be done. We appreciate the customer service from this company and look forward to hopefully years of working together!
I think I speak on behalf of all the residents here of the joy and wonderful experience of having Alex service our pools! A guy with a big heart and such a professional attitude towards he’s work. He takes great pride in what he does and the results show in our pools!! We can’t wait to see him again! Bravo to Alex 👏👏
First year to use Puddle Pools to do some work. Install a new salt system (good job) and close my pool for the season. We have used many pool services and Puddle Pools were easily the best. The closing was not just closing the pool, but also ensuring the pool itself was as clean as reasonably possible. Other vendors might do a superficial job, but Ryan and Regan went right at it, saving a lot of work for me in the spring. Both gentleman are very friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. Extend that to Rachel and Lindsay in the office as well, quite helpful and nice to deal with.
