Keeping your pool running smoothly takes a lot more than a skimming every now and then.

Signs the water loss is a leak and not evaporation

A pool loses some water to evaporation every week, especially through a Bucks County summer, when Philadelphia International Airport's NOAA normals put the July average high at 87.8 F. A leak looks different. The water level keeps dropping faster than evaporation explains, it drops even with the pump switched off or the pool needs topping up every few days instead of every couple of weeks. Any of those is a reason to test rather than guess, and a bucket test placed on the pool steps for a few days is a simple first comparison before calling for testing.

    How the testing works

Leak detection starts with pressure testing the plumbing lines to check whether the loss is coming from the pipes themselves. Dye testing follows at the fittings most likely to fail, including lights, skimmers and returns, since a small dye cloud pulled toward a fitting under water shows exactly where the leak is. Both methods locate the leak without digging up decking or lawn to search for it blind, which matters on an older pool where the exact plumbing layout underneath the deck is not always on record.

    Why catching it early matters

A slow leak does more than waste water. It also dilutes the chemistry faster than normal, since the pool is constantly refilled with fresh fill water from a supply where hardness in parts of the county, such as the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority's New Hope system, runs as high as 327 mg/L according to its 2025 report. Water that keeps needing to be topped up from a hard supply keeps resetting the mineral load as well as the sanitizer level, so a leak that goes unnoticed for a season can leave a pool harder to balance than it should be.

    A clear result either way

Technicians are CPO certified, and the visit ends with an E-Report that documents the readings and the testing performed, whether a leak is found or the pool checks out, so you have a record either way, with the exact fitting or line identified when a leak is the cause.

Bucks County Leak Detection: Frequently Asked Questions

Which Bucks County neighborhoods do you cover?

We look after pools across Bucks County, including Newtown, Yardley, Langhorne, Doylestown, Levittown and Warminster. The full list of areas is on our Bucks County page. If you do not see yours, get in touch and we will confirm.

Why does a small leak matter?

A pool holds a large volume of water, so a small leak adds up quickly. Beyond the water bill, a leak makes chemistry impossible to hold because treated water keeps escaping, it strains the pump and circulation system and water escaping into the ground can damage landscaping and, over time, the surrounding structure.

Can you test the plumbing lines as well as the pool shell?

Yes. Pressure testing checks the plumbing lines individually, which is how we tell a plumbing leak from a leak in the shell or liner. It is worth testing all the lines even when the leak seems obvious, because a second leak is easy to miss.

Should I keep the pool running while I wait for a leak test?

Keep the water level above the skimmer so the pump does not run dry, and note how much water you add and when. That record helps the test. If the level is dropping quickly, tell us when you book so the visit can be prioritized.

Can a hot tub or spa leak be detected the same way?

Yes. Spas and hot tubs have plumbing, jets and fittings that can leak just like a pool. The same testing approach applies, adapted to the spa's equipment.
