Why does hot tub water need changing at all?
Dissolved solids build up in the water over time and cannot be filtered out. Once they accumulate, the water becomes harder to balance, sanitizer works less well and the tub can start to foam or smell even when the chemistry readings look reasonable. Draining and refilling resets that, which is why it is part of maintenance rather than a sign something went wrong.
