Concord Pool Cleaning: Frequently Asked Questions

What are the pool fence rules in Concord?

Concord City Code Sec. 14-65 requires an outdoor pool with at least 450 square feet of water surface, a depth of 36 inches or more at its shallowest point or a filter wired to an electrical system to be completely surrounded by a fence or wall at least four feet high. Openings can be no larger than 16 square inches or four inches in any direction. Every gate needs self closing and self latching hardware. Confirm the details for your yard with the City of Concord before changing a fence.

Can I drain my pool into the storm drain in Concord?

Concord Code Sec. 60-47 allows filter backwash and draining associated with swimming pools to reach the storm drain system only if water quality is not significantly impacted. Sec. 62-191 separately lists swimming pool drainage among waters that may not go into the sanitary sewer unless the sewer system owners specifically authorize it. Check with Concord's stormwater staff before draining a pool.

Do I need a permit to fill a pool in Concord during a drought?

Under Concord Code Sec. 62-165, filling pools should be deferred or limited to 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. at Level I. At Level II newly constructed or drained pools may only be filled with a permit from the Water Resources Department. At Level III filling pools with City water is prohibited while Level IV bans almost all outdoor water use. Check the City's Water Use Guidelines page for the level in effect before you drain or fill.

What is included in a pool cleaning visit?

A standard visit covers the water, the surfaces and the equipment: skimming debris from the surface, brushing walls and steps, vacuuming the floor, emptying skimmer and pump baskets, checking the filter and testing and balancing the water chemistry. Doing all of it on one visit matters because these jobs undo each other if they are done separately.

Do I need to be home during the service?

No. As long as the technician can reach the pool and the equipment, service is usually carried out while nobody is home, which is how most regular customers prefer it. Arrange access to gates or side entrances in advance, and let us know about pets, alarms or anything else on the route to the pool.
