Davidson Code Sec. 30-175 allows pool and hot tub discharges only when they contain no chlorine, bromine, salt or other treatment chemicals while prohibiting filter backwash and saltwater pool discharges. Mooresville Code Sec. 25-50 allows dechlorinated pool water. Check your town's stormwater rules before draining anything that can reach the lake.
Is tap water around Lake Norman hard or soft?
Charlotte Water, which serves Huntersville, Davidson and Cornelius and draws from Lake Norman and Mountain Island Lake, lists total hardness around 32 to 38 ppm, which is soft water. Mooresville also draws from Lake Norman and reports a pH of 6.6 to 6.7. Testing and balancing fill water after a large top up keeps pool and hot tub chemistry on track.
Do Lake Norman pools need winter freeze protection?
Yes. NOAA normals show about 58 nights a year at or below 32 F at Charlotte Douglas and about 99 at Statesville 2 NNE, the stations south and north of the lake.
