Not inside Duke Energy's project area. Duke Energy's Shoreline Management Guidelines list swimming pools among uses that will not be approved within the full pond contour, the FERC Project Boundary or any Duke owned shoreline strip, except at approved public recreation facilities. Fences are not authorized there either. Build on your own lot outside that boundary and confirm the line with Duke Energy Lake Services first.
Are pool fence rules the same all around Lake Norman?
No, they depend on the town or county. Unincorporated Iredell County requires a fence at least four feet high with a self closing, positive self latching gate that can be locked. Mooresville requires a four foot barrier with self closing and self latching gates while Huntersville requires a four to eight foot fence with outward opening self closing gates. Check the rules for your own jurisdiction before building.
How far from lot lines must a pool be near Lake Norman?
Unincorporated Catawba County Code Sec. 44-624 keeps pools out of the front setback, at least 5 feet from the house and at least 10 feet from side and rear lot lines.
