Keeping your pool running smoothly takes a lot more than a skimming every now and then.

The Woodlands Pool Leak Detection

The average swimming pool holds thousands of gallons of water at any given time. With this much pressure, even a pinhole leak can lead to serious water loss and widespread damage. A pool leak will only get worse over time, so quick action is incredibly important. If you suspect that you’re dealing with water loss in The Woodlands, pool leak detection services are only a phone call away with Puddle Pool Services.

Swimming pool leaks aren’t always obvious. Some physical damage can be seen from a mile away, while other issues are more subtle. Our technicians can help you identify the presence of a leak with careful inspections or bucket tests. If we spot a problem, our experienced crews will isolate the problem areas and organize repairs.

Swimming Pool Leak Detection: How to Identify a Leak

Summer in Texas is the ideal time for a pool party. High temperatures, frequent swimmers, and a whole lot of splashing will cause pool water levels to drop. It can be tough to know the difference between evaporation and a water leak.

A low water level is the most obvious sign of a pool leak, but it’s not the only thing that you should be watching out for. Some other common signs of water leaks in swimming pools are higher than expected utility bills, the inability to balance pool chemistry, and pools of standing water in nearby areas.

If you’re having trouble measuring the water level in your pool, ask your Puddle technician about the bucket test. Our crews have tons of advanced equipment on hand, but sometimes the classic methods are the best ones! This test involves setting a bucket of water next to the poolside and marking the level in each. When exposed to the elements in the same way, the rate of water loss should be the same. If the level in the pool drops further than the level in the bucket, you’re dealing with a leak.

Puddle Pool Leak Detection: Top Tools & Techniques

Swimming pool leaks can be split into two categories: structural leaks and plumbing leaks. Each of these requires its own unique type of testing. Puddle Pool Services comes equipped with all of the necessary equipment to perform both types of testing for a clearer picture of your system.

Pressure Testing: If you are trying to hunt down a possible plumbing leak, the best way to get answers is with a pressure test. The process includes applying a steady stream of airflow to lines. If this air comes into contact with a crack or other damage, it will create visible bubbles in the return lines. In the case of underground leaks, saturated soil will make gurgling sounds that can be followed.

Dye Tests: In the case of damaged structures or vinyl liners, dye tests are an effective way to track down problem areas for repair. Technicians will turn off pool pumps and wait for the water to go still. Vibrant dyes are then strategically placed inside basins. Structural leaks will create a vacuum that pulls water in. Because dyes are heavier than water, they are drawn to the vacuum and leave a visible trail behind.

With a clear view of problem areas, Puddle Pool Services can inform customers about any necessary pool leak repairs to stop water loss in its tracks.
