Call ahead to schedule your Plano pool opening and make the most out of summer with a clean and inviting swim space.
Spring Pool Care: How to Open a Swimming Pool
How a swimming pool is opened for the season really depends on how you closed it down in fall. A full closing means winterizing plugs, dropping water levels and swapping out pool covers. When opening up, all of this will need to be undone before you can start prepping your swimming pool for use. The best way to get your pool ready for use is with a multi-step program that treats basins, structures and water systems.
Step 1: Grab a garden hose and refill the water level in your swim space. By doing this chemically treated water is able to get into return lines and circulation systems. Replace any internal components that were removed, dried and stored for the off-season.
Step 2: Once circulation systems are back in place and water levels are raised it is time for a shock treatment. An initial shock treatment will clear away cloudiness and help to alleviate some of the green colour.
Step 3: Remove all of the debris that has built up inside the pool basin and surrounding areas. This means heavy scrubbing with speciality brushes designed to remove residue from the water line without damaging vinyl liners. Manual vacuums are used to suck up sunken items that are resting on the bottom of the pool. This is also a great time for a secondary shock if necessary.
Step 4: After a long period of disuse your pool water will need a lot of TLC before use. Experienced technicians will test and balance pool water, monitoring chemical levels as they go to ensure that it is safe for use. Instead of using basic test strips to monitor chlorine levels alone Puddle crews balance chlorine and sanitizer levels, pH levels, total alkalinity and calcium.
An opening is also the ideal time to check in with your pool filter. A cartridge filter should be removed, cleaned and reinstalled every 3-4 months while a sand filter should be emptied and replaced with fresh sand every 3-5 years.
