Can I drain my pool into the street in Charleston?
City Code Sec. 27-40 makes it unlawful to discharge anything but stormwater to the city stormwater system, except that the stormwater director may allow listed discharges including dechlorinated swimming pool discharges. Pool water should be dechlorinated before it goes anywhere near a storm drain. Confirm with the City before draining.
Can pool use be restricted during a drought in Charleston?
Under City Code Sec. 30-211 and 30-212, a mayoral drought or emergency proclamation can prohibit use of water in public or private swimming pools. Charleston Water System says Charleston has an abundant water supply even during drought. Check for any proclamation before a large fill.

Does a vinyl liner pool leak differently from a concrete pool?
The usual suspects differ. Vinyl liners tend to leak through tears, punctures or around fittings and faceplates, while concrete and plaster pools are more likely to leak through cracks or at tile lines, lights and returns. Dye testing works on both.
How do I know if my pool is leaking or just losing water to evaporation?
Some water loss is normal, especially in hot, dry or windy weather and after heavy use. A leak is more likely when the level keeps dropping faster than the weather explains, when it drops even with the pump off, when the ground near the pool or equipment stays wet or when you are adding water every few days. A simple bucket test (a bucket of pool water on a step, comparing the two levels after a day) helps separate the two, and a leak detection visit confirms it.

Got a 20 year old gunnite pool. All my equipment was failing, and Aaron helped me choose new equipment that had better features but also compatible with the original panel/motherboard. Everything worked great, price was competitive, he told me when it would be delivered, and followed through on everything.
