Where can a pool go on a City of Sarasota lot?
Under the City of Sarasota Zoning Code Sec. VII-903, an uncaged in ground pool must be at least five feet from all property lines and can sit in a front yard only behind a six foot solid wall or fence. Caged pools must be behind the front of the house in a side or rear yard. On waterfront lots an uncaged pool needs five feet from the mean high water mark and a height limit of 30 inches above grade or the seawall cap. Confirm the rules for your lot with the City before building.

What are the pool barrier rules in Sarasota?
Florida's Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act (Chapter 515 F.S.) requires a new residential pool to have at least one safety feature, such as a compliant barrier, an approved safety cover or an ASTM F2208 pool alarm. Barriers must be at least 4 feet high on the outside with no gaps a young child could crawl through. Gates must open outward and self close and self latch, so confirm permit requirements with the City for your property.
