The City of White Rock runs its own groundwater utility drawing on the Sunnyside Uplands Aquifer, so it does not use Metro Vancouver water. The City Annual Water Data 2021 gives hardness of 100 to 102 mg/L as CaCO3 at distribution sampling stations and 91 to 135 mg/L at individual wells, with alkalinity of 99 to 102 mg/L in the distribution system. That is moderately hard and much harder than the very soft water in surrounding Surrey, so pool chemistry balancing differs from Metro Vancouver neighbours.
What are the pool fence rules in White Rock?
White Rock Building Bylaw No. 1928 requires a City pool permit for residential pools deeper than 450 mm and a fence or structure at least 1.0668 m (3.5 ft) high completely enclosing the pool. Gates must return to a latched or locked position, with the latch on the pool side at least 150 mm below the top of the gate and at least 1 m above grade. Confirm the requirements with the City before building or changing a fence.
Can a house wall form part of a pool enclosure in White Rock?
Only with added protection. The White Rock building bylaw allows no direct access from a dwelling unless a house wall used as part of the enclosure has door alarms meeting the bylaw specifications, a power safety cover or equivalent self closing and self latching protection. Hot tubs with a locking cover are exempt from the fence rules.
