Fountain Maintenance: Choosing the Right Tools For the Job 

Both indoor and outdoor fountains come with their own set of obstacles. An outdoor model is left out to the elements, and indoor fountains are prone to scale buildup. It’s not enough for water features to look good; they have to function too. Water Balancing: There shouldn’t be anyone swimming in your fountain, but that doesn't mean it’s okay to let water go green. Swampy water looks terrible, smells awful, drags down curb appeal, and can damage systems. If the pH in fountain water is imbalanced, it will start to create white scale that will damage internal components and equipment. Debris Removal: There’s no way to stop organic debris from getting into outdoor fountains. Scrubbing Surfaces: It’s common to spot algae blooms or dark spots forming on fountain surfaces. This looks bad, but it’s also very dangerous to the integrity of the water feature. Concrete is tough, but ultimately a porous material. If algae and growth are allowed to sit on surfaces over prolonged periods, they’ll start to weaken and break down. In this case, you might want to clean the fountain with a quick pressure wash, but this can blast away weakened areas. Taking a DIY approach to cleaning the pump is never a good idea, so make sure to ask an expert!
