What are the pool fence rules in Markham?
Markham's Pool Enclosure By-law 2015-96 covers outdoor pools, hot tubs, inflatable pools and landscaped ponds deeper than 0.6 m and requires a permit before construction. The enclosure must be 1.2 m to 1.8 m high, have openings no larger than 100 mm and sit at least 1.2 m from the water's edge. Gates must close within 30 seconds, latch on the inside and be padlocked when the pool is not in use. The pool may not be filled until the enclosure is inspected, so confirm details with the City.
Where am I allowed to drain pool water in Markham?
Markham's pool by-law bars discharging pool water onto a neighbouring property, into a valley or ravine or so it erodes a slope. Discharge onto City property is allowed only by hose to the street in front, into a catch basin on your property (or a neighbour's with consent) or onto your own driveway or front yard. Confirm with the City before draining.
