Hot Tub Care: Getting the Best Results 

Anyone can stock up on test kits and hot tub chemicals but putting these to use is a lot easier said than done. In order to get the best results for your water systems, it is important to break your hot tub cleaning into a multi-step approach. Water Chemistry: In order to keep spa water clean it is important to look beyond sanitizer levels alone. It is easy to get caught up on chlorine levels but there is a lot more that goes into water balancing. Keeping water clean and sanitary means balancing chlorine or bromine, as well as pH levels, total alkalinity and calcium levels. 

Debris Removal: Unlike a swimming pool you can’t rely on a pool vacuum to suck up unwanted debris from the hot tub floor. If you are noticing unwanted items building up on your flooring or in seats, you will need a speciality vacuum to get rid of them. Floating skimmer baskets will trap and hold debris that is floating along water surfaces but these will need to be emptied regularly. If organics are left in pool water they will rot and break apart, creating even smaller pieces that will clog up filters. 

Keeping Hot Tub Filters Clean: Hot tub filters are designed to trap unwanted items while letting clean water pass through back into the shell. Without regular cleaning these filters will clog up, making it more difficult for water to flow and using more energy to push it through lines. This means higher energy bills and unnecessary wear and tear on your water systems and internal components. This means shortening their lifespans and paving the way for needing premature repairs and replacements. Keeping your filter cleaner means prolonging the lifespan of your equipment and helping to avoid expensive repairs. 

Exterior Cleans: There isn’t much point in spending your time and energy treating and balancing water and removing debris if your hot tub cover is still contaminated. It might not seem like it but hot tub equipment and surrounding areas play a big role in the overall health of your water system — not to mention the appearance! Deep Cleans: Even with regular cleanings it is important to schedule a deep clean/system refresh bi-annually at a minimum. This process involves a multi-step chemical approach that flows through internal plumbing and water lines pulling out any buildup that has formed behind the scenes. These unwanted items are then pushed into the tub shell. From here, hot tub water can be drained and shells, jets and headrests are scrubbed clean. Having to drain the hot tub can be a serious risk if done improperly so it is always better to have an expert handle this step for you. Water can then be refilled and technicians revisit for a final balancing of chemical levels.
