No. UF/IFAS Extension advises keeping the pool full and not draining or partially draining it before a storm, since saturated ground can damage an emptied shell. It also advises shocking before and again after the storm and never putting patio furniture in the pool. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to Nov. 30 and peaks around Sept. 10, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Can I drain my pool into the street in Palm Beach?
Only with a permit. The Town of Palm Beach requires a Dewatering ROW Permit to discharge into roadways or alleys and allows no chemicals or sediments into its stormwater system. Chlorinated water must be pretreated or left without added chlorine for at least 7 days, then run through a closed conduit (blue flex pipe) in the right of way down to a Town inlet. Contact the Town before draining.
