Hot Tub Care: What to Know

Keeping hot tubs or swim spas clean is not a once a season chore. In order to keep debris out and chemical levels where they need to be, hot tub cleaning should be done on a bi-weekly basis. Even with regular cleanings, there will come a time when you will need to drain and clean water systems for a full Hot Tub Refresh.

Water Treatments: Covering a hot tub when it is not in use is a no-brainer but when covered, water is at a high risk of contamination. Damp, dark, covered environments are the ideal space for mold and algae to thrive. Without the addition of a sanitizer like chlorine or bromine, it won’t take long for water to be overrun with algae blooms, white mold and foul smells. Pool specialists balance spa water, measuring for sanitizers, as well as pH levels, calcium and alkalinity. Dealing with Debris: Even with a hot tub cover, debris has a way of finding its way inside pool systems. Hot Tub Filters: It is easy to forget that water systems rely on filters to stay clean and healthy. Keeping your filter cleaner means regular inspections, along with cleaning as needed. Hot Tub Refresh: No matter how thorough standard cleaning practices might be, there are certain parts of hot tubs that just can’t be reached. If there is white mold, bacteria or buildup inside plumbing lines, it will need to be flushed out and the best way to do that is with a drain and refill. This process starts with a multi-part chemical service designed to run through plumbing lines and water systems, drawing any build up out and depositing it into hot tub water. From here, it is time to drain the hot tub. Improper draining can lead to drowned lawns, water damaged, flooding and leaks, so it is always better left up to the experts. Once empty, shells, sides, floors and walls are scrubbed to remove residue and eliminate bacteria from jets, head rests and other key areas. It is then time to refill your hot tub and this can be done with a simple garden hose. Technicians will then come back for a final water balancing and your hot tub will be better than ever.
