Petaluma Hot Tub Maintenance

Most heater elements last 5 to 10 years depending on water quality and run time. Hard-water regions see shorter lifespans. We inspect the heater on every visit and flag scale or signs of failure early.

Children over 5 can use a hot tub for short periods at lower temperatures (95 to 98 F maximum). Children under 5 should not use hot tubs because their thermoregulation is less developed.

Standard chemicals (bromine or chlorine, pH adjusters, alkalinity adjusters) are included in your maintenance visit price. Specialty chemicals (calcium chloride, stain treatments, shock oxidizers) are billed separately and we always notify you before adding them.

Bromine is more stable at hot tub temperatures and produces less smell when bather load is high. Chlorine is cheaper but evaporates faster at hot tub temperatures. Most heavy-use tubs run on bromine. Light-use residential tubs can use either.

Each visit includes scrubbing the shell and waterline, cleaning the filter cartridge, testing water chemistry (bromine or chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness) and rebalancing with chemicals as needed. We inspect the cover, pump and heater for issues and leave a digital E-Report with chemical readings and photos.

Most tubs benefit from a drain-and-refill every 3 to 4 months. Heavier use, harder source water and higher bather load shorten this interval. We track total dissolved solids (TDS) on every visit and recommend a drain when TDS crosses 1,500 ppm.

Removing the cover and checking water clarity for 30 seconds every few days. If water is cloudy or smells strong, it needs attention before our next visit. Most surprises come from waiting too long to look.

Optional but useful in cold climates. A floating thermal blanket reduces heat loss from the water surface, slows evaporation and chemical loss, and extends the life of your main cover by reducing condensation underneath.

Hot tubs in Petaluma deal with warm dry summers, mild winters. We adjust the drain-and-refill schedule, sanitizer dosing and cover-care cadence to match those local realities so the tub stays balanced through every season.

We service hot tubs across Petaluma and surrounding areas including West Petaluma, East Petaluma, Old East Petaluma and Liberty. Free quote within one business day confirms coverage and scheduling if your address sits outside our existing routes.

After Tubbs 2017, Kincade 2019 and Glass 2020 we developed a hot tub ash and smoke protocol for Sonoma County. Ash settles on covers during fire events and washes into the water at the next use. We swap to a leaf-mesh top cover during peak risk windows, run extra shock treatments after any nearby fire and inspect filters more frequently. Sonoma Mountain and McNear Hill properties get priority post-event scheduling.

Sonoma Water blends Russian River, Lake Sonoma and Lake Mendocino supply at 80 to 150 ppm calcium hardness. Hot tub drain-and-refill happens every 3 to 4 months. Each cycle resets chemistry to source water characteristics. We adjust calcium, alkalinity and sequestrant dosing per refill ratio to protect heaters and jets.

Public Safety Power Shutoffs by PG&E during high-wind wildfire risk routinely take Sonoma County power offline for 24 to 96 hours. Hot tubs lose heat and circulation. We coordinate with clients on imminent shutoff alerts, drop a sanitizer floater if absence is expected and run heavy shock plus filter clean once power restores. No charge for storm-related rescheduling.
