What are the pool fence rules in St. Louis?
City of St. Louis Building Division guidelines call for a barrier at least 48 inches high on all sides of the pool, with gates that open outward, self close and self latch. In ground pools 24 inches or deeper, 250 square feet or larger or with a recirculating system need a building permit. All pools also need a permit from the City Health Department. These guidelines date from 2001, so confirm current rules with the Building Division before building.
Can I drain my pool to the street in St. Louis?
The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District says you may drain on your property to a drainage channel, storm inlet or curb line gutter only if chlorine is low, pH is 5.5 to 11.5 and the water is not cloudy, discolored or full of algae or sediment. MSD suggests stopping chlorine additions for several days first. The flow must not cause erosion or overflow the sewer, so check with MSD before draining.
