St. Louis Residential Pool Services: Frequently Asked Questions
How hard is St. Louis tap water for pools?
The City of St. Louis Water Division's 2025 Consumer Confidence Report shows total hardness averaging 129 ppm as CaCO3 with a range of 80 to 206 ppm. Missouri American Water, which serves St. Louis County, reports 67 to 217 mg/L (4 to 13 grains per gallon). Knowing your utility helps set the right calcium target for a pool or hot tub.
When should I open my pool in St. Louis?
Openings usually make sense once daytime temperatures consistently reach the 70s, typically late April or early May. National Weather Service records give St. Louis an average last freeze of April 5, though the latest on record was May 10 (1966).
When should I close my pool in St. Louis?
Closings typically come after temperatures consistently drop below 65F, usually late September or early October. The National Weather Service average first freeze is October 31, but the earliest on record was September 28 (1942). Pools here still face a hard winter freeze, so lines and equipment need winterizing.
How do I choose the right service plan?
Service plans come in tiers, so the schedule and scope can match how you use your pool. Your local team will recommend a plan based on the pool, the equipment and how much attention it needs.
Do you look after hot tubs as well as pools?
Yes. Many homes have both, and hot tubs can be serviced on the same visit and the same plan as the pool.
We just started using Puddle Pools and have been extremely pleased with the timely response, the detailed care, the direct communication and the professionalism. Mike, the owner, has been wonderful to work with and is very easy to contact! We would definitely recommend the company to others!
