It requires a sturdy fence at least 4 ft high with no openings over 4 in and self closing gates that return to a locked position with a spring lock at least 3 ft 6 in above grade. The City says pool covers are not an acceptable alternative to the fence, so check with the City before building.

The City of Surrey requires a building permit for pools of 14 m2 or more and 450 mm or deeper. A plumbing permit may also be needed for drainage and backflow prevention. Confirm with the City before you start.
