In a hotel environment a swimming pool can help to bring in guests and in a residential space, a pool is a great place to host, relax and get a bit of exercise. No matter where your pool is located, even a small leak will quickly become a major issue. There are plenty of places that leaks can form but no matter the location, water loss leads to frustration, increased water bills, structural damage and other unpleasant surprises. Professional Vancouver leak detection identifies what type of leak you are dealing with and isolates affected areas so call today before your system loses more water!
It is no secret that all water leaks can cause damage but each leak is its own animal. Trying to treat a plumbing leak in the same way that you will treat a structural leak will only result in subpar results. Swimming pool leaks should be treated according to type, location and the age of your system. Hiring an expert for your pool leak detection services help to identify what type of leak you are dealing with, isolates the area and can help to organize leak repair in the Vancouver area.
Leak Detection in Pools: Identification, Isolation and Proper Testing
Water levels will vary throughout the course of a year but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you are dealing with a leak. Vancouver is known for high heats and temperamental weather. Combine these with high swim traffic and it is a recipe for a decreased water level. Throughout summer, high heats will lead to natural evaporation and the bodies that are going in and out of it are carrying pool water with them with every exit. On average, an outdoor swimming pool loses between 3-5 inches of water over the course of a week. For pool owners it can be difficult to tell if this is standard water loss or a leak.
In order to determine whether or not you are dealing with a water leak many pool owners lean on traditional methods like the bucket test. This test involves taking a bucket of pool water and setting it out next to the side of your pool, making sure that both water sources are exposed to the same conditions. After a couple of days, the evaporation rate in the bucket should be the same as the evaporation rate in the pool. If the pool is significantly less than the bucket, you are more than likely dealing with a leak.
Identifying that you are dealing with a water leak is only the first step to solving your issues. From here, it is important to identify what type of leak you are dealing with and that requires vigorous testing. In order to properly track down the leak in your pool, our team of Puddle Pros arrive on-scene with the right tools and techniques to perform pressure testing and dye tests in both inground and above ground pools.
From leaking pipes, root damage, a torn pool liner and more, there is nothing that our team of Puddle technicians can’t handle. Vancouver Leak Detection: Frequently Asked Questions
Where does pool drain water go in Vancouver?
The City's in ground pool permit checklist says pool or hot tub drainage connects to an approved sump with a branch line to the sanitary sewer, while deck drains go to storm. A backflow preventer is also required on a hose bibb used to fill a pool. Check with the City permit office for your property.
Which Vancouver neighborhoods do you cover?
We look after pools across Vancouver, including Downtown & Yaletown, West End & Coal Harbour, Gastown & Chinatown, False Creek & Olympic Village, Kitsilano & Fairview and Point Grey & UBC. The full list of areas is on our Vancouver page. If you do not see yours, get in touch and we will confirm.
Can I fill my pool during water restrictions in Vancouver?
Under Metro Vancouver's Drinking Water Conservation Plan, Stages 1 and 2 do not affect pool filling. Stage 3 prohibits filling or topping up pools and hot tubs except with a health authority permit. Check the Metro Vancouver stage in effect before filling in summer.
Does a vinyl liner pool leak differently from a concrete pool?
The usual suspects differ. Vinyl liners tend to leak through tears, punctures or around fittings and faceplates, while concrete and plaster pools are more likely to leak through cracks or at tile lines, lights and returns. Dye testing works on both.
How do I know if my pool is leaking or just losing water to evaporation?
Some water loss is normal, especially in hot, dry or windy weather and after heavy use. A leak is more likely when the level keeps dropping faster than the weather explains, when it drops even with the pump off, when the ground near the pool or equipment stays wet or when you are adding water every few days. A simple bucket test (a bucket of pool water on a step, comparing the two levels after a day) helps separate the two, and a leak detection visit confirms it.
Great service! We had Matt come over to drain and refill the hot tub. He also washed the whole tub and balanced the chemicals. Definitely would recommend!
These ladies are amazing! Identified the problem, ordered the new part and quickly got out to do the repair. Both Staci and Lola were professional and personable…a rare combination these days. I highly recommend this company
We rented our house and needed a hot tub cleaning service asap. I called PPS and they responded to the urgency of our situation right away. Throughout the rental period PPS was extremely flexible and offered after hours contact through text. Their service is very professional and met the needs of an extreme picky house guest. I’d highly recommend them to anyone needing a hot tub cleaning service.
We did call Puddle's for a inspection and the guy Yuvi told us exactly what needs to be done no left or right just direct things that needed to solved and we liked them and overall Management ia soo good. Pricing wise super fair even though it's Vancouver lol!
I don't know much about but a guy name Yuvi youngman seems so professional and he's the one we been looking for he's the best and yeah he's a part of Puddle's so i will recommend this company highly. Thanks again to the Management Miss Tina and Yuvi.
Puddle Pools might be the only company in the Vancouver area that services inflatable spas. I contacted five other companies, and they were the only ones willing to help. On top of that, they were professional, prompt, and reasonably priced, especially compared to how much others charge for leak detection in pools and hot tubs. I’d definitely use their services again.

Our family just can't say enough good things about Puddle Pool Services. We had a terrible provider before - completely unresponsive, often a no show, chaotic invoicing, and no reporting. What a difference with Puddle Pools! As soon as our account was set up we were on a weekly schedule and it was like clockwork! The technicians are completely reliable, thorough, and send a report after each visit with check marks for what was done for servicing, short notes, and pictures. Talk about over the top service. This past week we had a pipe joint fail in the poolhouse and we were away. Our caretaker noticed it right away and Puddle Pools had someone out the next day to check and find out what they needed to bring the next day for repairs. They turned off the pump to protect it while the caretaker refilled the pool and then came back the next day to turn it on. What could have been an expensive disaster was all taken care of. The stress relief this provided was huge! We love, love, love Puddle Pools. Thank you, Travis!
Kat from Puddle Pool Services is great. She’s punctual, thorough and always does a great job. My pool and spa have never looked better!
