Denton runs its own water utility and treats surface water from Lake Lewisville and Lake Ray Roberts, according to the city's 2025 water quality report. The report does not list hardness, but it shows total alkalinity of 92.1 to 96.0 mg/L and total dissolved solids of 190 to 249 mg/L, which are useful starting points when balancing a freshly filled pool or hot tub.
Denton's pool FAQ lists three options. You can drain onto your own landscape if the water does not run into the street or pool up. You can also use the sanitary sewer through your home's sewer clean out or the storm drain after approval from Watershed Protection. For storm drain approval the water must be free of pool chemicals for at least three days, dechlorinated to below 0.1 mg/L and cleared of debris. Contact Denton Watershed Protection before draining.
No. Denton's pool FAQ says saltwater pools cannot be discharged to the storm drain and that filter backwash should go to the sanitary sewer because it carries more contaminants than pool water. City Code Section 26-189 prohibits discharging pollutants to a storm sewer without suitable treatment or a federal discharge permit. Check with the City of Denton if you are unsure where your backwash line runs.

Very little, which is the point of a service, but two habits help: empty the skimmer basket if it fills between visits, and run the pump long enough each day to turn the water over. If the water goes cloudy, loses its clarity or smells strongly of chlorine, tell your technician rather than waiting for the next visit.
