The Best Way to Detect Pool Leaks 

If you notice that the water level in your pool has begun to drop the first likely course of action is to add water. This is a quick and easy test in which a bucket is filled and set out next to pools. Both are exposed to the same elements so if there is a noticeable drop in water level in the swimming pool but not the bucket, it’s a leak!

Because dyes weigh more than water it will be attracted to the vacuum created by a leak. As dyes are sucked up they will leave a colorful trail behind that can be tracked. 

Plumbing Leaks: An inground pool means the possibility of underground leaks. These don’t leave much in the way of obvious visual signs but they can cause a big headache! The best way to test for plumbing leaks is with a pressure test. This type of testing involves applying a steady stream of air to plumbing lines. If there is a crack or damage somewhere inside the system that is causing water loss it will create air bubbles. These can be tracked through lines or in the case of an underground leak saturated soil will create gurgling sounds.
