What are the pool fence rules in Maple Ridge?
Under Maple Ridge Building Bylaw No. 8097-2026, a pool deeper than 0.45 m or larger than 14 m2 must be enclosed by a permanent fence or barrier at least 1,200 mm high with no openings over 100 mm, whether the pool is full or empty. Gates must be self closing and self latching and return to a locked position; snow fencing or construction fencing is not allowed. A locking cover strong enough to hold a person may be used instead of a fence. Confirm the details for your property with the City before building.
Does a new pool fence need to be inspected before filling in Maple Ridge?
Yes. The Maple Ridge building bylaw requires the fencing, barrier or cover to be inspected and approved by a Building Official before the pool is filled. A pool permit is needed for in ground, above ground and indoor pools and for hot tubs, except self contained hot tubs with a locking cover. Check with the City building department before a new pool or hot tub goes in.
