Vaughan Seasonal Pool Maintenance

Ontario has very defined seasons. When winter comes around there is no mistaking that chill in the air. As busy as you might be when the fall season starts to come around it is important to make time for your pool. As the seasons change your swim space still needs attention. Whether you are opening it up or closing it down, proper Vaughan seasonal pool maintenance is key to keeping your water systems in great shape all year long.

The internet is full of tips for fall pool maintenance but some of these can do more harm than good. An improper closure case have a direct impact on how you open your pool in spring. When you want to make the most out of the swim season while protecting your pool throughout the off-season, our Puddle technicians have services and programs that get great results at any time of year.

Seasonal Pool Care: What to Do & When

After months of sitting idle you are likely going to pull back your pool cover to find cloudy or discoloured water, algae and a whole lot of debris. Restoring the condition of a swim space to being safe and usable is a multi-step process that treats pool water and surfaces, as well as the internal systems that keep it flowing. The secret to an easy pool opening is a proper pool closing in fall.

Fall Pool Care: Closing a swimming pool is the best way to protect it during the off-season. If water is not chemically treated regularly it will start to form algae blooms, become discoloured and will likely start to smell. A swampy pool is unappealing but it also isn’t the worst-case scenario for pool owners. Sub-zero temperatures make plastic brittle and cause water to freeze. Frozen water expands up to 9% which is enough to cause pipes to burst resulting in serious, widespread damage. The secret to avoiding this? Drop the water level! By dropping water levels to a few inches below the skimmer line and winterizing plugs you can prevent water from seeping into vulnerable areas where it will cause damage.

Spring Pool Care: The main goal of opening a pool in spring is to restore water condition and create a sanitary swim space for use throughout spring and summer. Sounds easy, right? Not at all! Before you can cannonball into your swimming pool it will need a shock treatment, and then needs to be scrubbed, skimmed, vacuumed and tested. Stepping foot into contaminated water leads to recreational water illnesses like skin irritations, eye infections and in extreme cases, e-coli poisoning. It is important to remove any debris from your system but it is also important to check the pool filters and pool equipment to ensure that circulation systems are running smoothly. Once clean it is time for a proper water balancing involving chlorine levels, pH levels, total alkalinity and calcium.
