The City of Vaughan measures its drinking water hardness at 125 mg/L or 7.26 grains per gallon, and York Region classes its water as hard. It is Lake Ontario water treated by the City of Toronto and Peel Region, then supplied by York Region. That matters when balancing calcium hardness in a pool or hot tub.
Is Kleinburg water different from the rest of Vaughan?
York Region lists Kleinburg separately, with a 2026 Q2 average hardness of 133 mg/L as CaCO3 compared with 128 mg/L for York Water System Vaughan. Both are classed as hard by the Region, so test fill water before balancing a pool, hot tub or water feature.
Can I drain my pool onto my lawn in Vaughan?
Under Vaughan's Sewer Use By-law 025-2024, chlorine or salt pool water and filter backwash may go onto the lawn only if it is dechlorinated and has a pH above 6.0 and below 9.0. It must also be free of debris, vegetation and algae and soak in without running toward your home or a neighbour. Homes that back onto a ravine or valley may not use this option. Check with the City before draining.
