What are the pool fence rules in Oshawa?
The City of Oshawa requires a Pool Enclosure Permit for any pool, hot tub or decorative pond deeper than 60 cm. The enclosure including gates must be between 1.5 m and 2.2 m high, gates need a self latching device on the pool side near the top and gaps under or beside the fence may not exceed 100 mm. Confirm the details with the City before you build.
Does a shallow pond or water feature need a fence in Oshawa?
It can. Oshawa requires an enclosure at least 120 cm high around any pool, hot tub or decorative pond with water 30 cm to 60 cm deep, even though no permit is needed at that depth. Anything deeper than 60 cm needs a Pool Enclosure Permit, so check with the City before adding a pond or water feature.
What can sit near a pool fence in Oshawa?
Oshawa does not allow climbable objects within 0.9 m of the outside of a pool fence unless the fence is raised to 1.8 m. Doors from a garage into the pool area must be self closing with a latch at least 1.5 m up. A pool inspection visit is a good time to spot planters, benches or equipment that have crept too close, but the City makes the compliance call.
