Cyanuric acid (CYA) is chlorine stabilizer. It protects chlorine from UV degradation in outdoor pools. Target is 30 to 50 ppm for stabilized pools. Below 30 ppm chlorine burns off fast in sunlight. Above 80 ppm chlorine becomes less effective at sanitizing.

Before a named storm, lower the water level 6 to 12 inches below the skimmer, turn off and pull heater drain plugs, secure or remove loose deck furniture and add a high chlorine shock. After the storm, vacuum debris from the bottom, refill to operating level and rebalance chemistry. Power outages should not concern you; run the pump as soon as power returns.

Most cartridges last 2 to 3 years with regular cleaning. Signs of replacement include cracked endcaps, torn pleats, persistent high pressure right after cleaning, or visibly damaged media. We flag it in the E-Report when we see it.

Yes. Concrete and gunite pools are the most chemically forgiving but they are also the most prone to scaling and staining. We focus on calcium balance and regular sequestrant treatment to keep the plaster in good shape.
