What are the pool fence rules in Richmond?
Richmond Building Regulation Bylaw 7230 requires an outdoor swimming pool to be at least 1.2 m from the parcel line and enclosed by a fence at least 1.2 m high that is hard to climb and has no openings over 100 mm. Entry must be through a self closing gate that latches on the pool side. Confirm the rules for your property with the City of Richmond before building or changing a fence.
Is Richmond tap water hard or soft for pools?
Very soft. The City of Richmond's 2025 water report says most of its water comes from Metro Vancouver's Seymour and Capilano reservoirs, and Metro Vancouver's 2024 report gives treated hardness averages of about 22 mg/L as CaCO3 for both. Soft, low alkalinity fill water often means calcium hardness and alkalinity need raising, which a maintenance visit checks.
