How a Southlake repair starts
The first step is always a diagnosis, because replacing the wrong part costs time and leaves the real fault in place. Repairs cover pumps and motors, heaters, filters, plumbing, vinyl liner patches and leaks, on pools and on hot tubs, which share many of the same components and are diagnosed the same way. Signs that something needs attention include:
- water that will not stay clear or balanced
- unusual noise from the pump
- pressure readings outside the normal range
- water loss faster than evaporation
- equipment that trips or will not start
Once the cause is found, you get a plain explanation and a quote so you can decide before anything is done. When water loss is involved, leak detection testing finds where it is escaping so the repair targets the right place.
Summer heat and pump wear
Southlake summers put equipment through long stretches of heat. NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals for DFW Airport, just southeast of the city, show an average August high of 95.8 F, about 106 days a year at or above 90 F and about 20 at or above 100 F. Pumps and motors do much of their yearly work in those conditions. When a pump fails, the right call depends on its age and condition and on what actually broke. A worn part can often be replaced. An older or inefficient pump may be worth upgrading instead, because a variable speed pump uses less energy by running at lower flow whenever full power is not needed. The technician explains both options before you choose.
Heaters and hard water
A heater that stops heating can fail for many reasons, from controls and sensors to ignition and flow problems, so the technician checks the heater and the water flowing through it before recommending a repair or a replacement. Southlake's water deserves attention here. The city's Water Quality Report for 2025 data lists total hardness of 108 to 150 ppm as calcium carbonate, calcium of 37.6 to 48.1 ppm and pH from 7.8 to 8.5. That puts it in the moderately hard to hard range, and water like that tends to leave scale where it is heated, so heater and hot tub repairs here often go hand in hand with a look at the water chemistry. Balanced water is kinder to equipment and helps a repair last.
Freeze and storm damage
Freezes are infrequent in Southlake but not rare. DFW Airport averages about 29 nights a year at or below 32 F, and the National Weather Service recorded 139 consecutive hours below freezing there from February 13 to 19, 2021. Water expands as it freezes, so pipes, pumps, filters and heaters that held water through a hard freeze can crack. That damage often stays hidden until the system is started again. Severe weather also peaks in spring across the Metroplex, and the National Weather Service notes large hail and damaging winds nearly every year. If equipment trips, leaks or will not start after a cold snap or a storm, a diagnosis tells you whether it needs a part, a repair or a replacement.
Liners, renovations and city rules
Small tears and punctures in a vinyl liner can usually be patched, which stops water loss and protects the structure behind it. Larger damage or an aging liner may call for replacement, and a technician can tell you which makes sense. For bigger renovation plans, Southlake adopted the 2021 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code through City Code Sec. 4.5-191, with local amendments on barriers and safety covers. Pool construction falls within the construction site definition in the city stormwater code. The drought plan matters too: at Stage 2, refilling is allowed only to maintain water levels for structural integrity, proper operation and maintenance or public safety, and Stage 3 stops permits for new pools and spas. Check with the city before work that involves draining or permits.
Southlake Pool & Hot Tub Repairs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which Southlake neighborhoods do you cover?
We look after pools across Southlake, including Town Square, Carroll & North Carroll, Timarron, Southlake Boulevard Corridor, Dove Road & Westridge and West Dove. The full list of areas is on our Southlake page. If you do not see yours, get in touch and we will confirm.
Will I get a quote before any repair work starts?
Yes. After the diagnosis you get an explanation of what is wrong and a quote for the repair, so you can decide before work begins.
What kinds of pool repairs do you handle?
Common repairs include pumps and motors, heaters, filters and plumbing, vinyl liner patches and leaks. The first step is always diagnosing the actual cause so the right part gets fixed.
My pool heater is not heating. Can it be repaired?
Often, yes. Heaters stop heating for a range of reasons, from controls and sensors to ignition and flow problems. A technician checks the heater and the water flow to it before recommending a repair or replacement.
Should I repair or replace my pool pump?
It depends on the age and condition of the pump and what failed. A worn part can often be replaced, but an old or inefficient pump may be worth upgrading, since a variable speed pump uses less energy by running at lower flow when full power is not needed.
Puddle Pools is such a great company! Our previous pool boy (my husband) got fired from pool duty because it was turning into a green swamp! Chris Reeves came out same day to get an initial consultation and get us started. Noah, Ian, and Chris came out every day for a week to turn our swamp into a blue lagoon that we could enjoy that weekend! Every clean is documented with every chemical used (chemicals included in service!), and pictures so you can see their results. So happy to have Ian and Noah as reliable pool boys to keep our pool ready for my kiddos to use this summer! 10/10 ⭐️
After 25 years of tending to pool duties on my own because no one else could possibly do it better than me, I turned it ALL over to Chris Reeves with Puddle Pools. I have a high maintenance pool under a canopy of trees. The water is usually dark green for most of April and May. Last week inside of 3 days, it was crystal clear and ready to use. I’ve found that they are also able to handle any pool need from water treatment to any type of pool equipment. They are reliable, trustworthy and provide a real value for the money. I highly recommend them. They’re making my life so much easier.
Honest people that will take care of you. Chris came out to give me a quote on pool services. Chris was very honest telling me what options made sense for my situation and didn’t pressure me to make a decision. I ended up hiring Puddle Pools to detect a suspected leak I had. They identified a leaky valve and quickly showed up to fix that valve. Highly recommend using Puddle Pools. Ask for Chris. Good Dude.
