Pool Inspections in Cambridge: What to Expect

Having an accessible swim space right in your own backyard is a dream for many home owners, but be careful what you wish for! If you are looking to buy a home with a pool it is important not to get blindsided by all of the potential fun and focus on whether or not it works! Even if a pool looks good on the surface, this doesn’t mean that internal systems and components are in good working order. Don’t take a risk on a swim space when you can call Puddle for reliable, affordable and in-depth Cambridge pool inspections.

When a property changes hands it is always a good idea to book a home inspection. The average home inspector can offer you insight into the condition of roofing or foundations but this doesn’t always include pools. Whenever there is a pool, spa or hot tub involved it is important to consult an industry pro, like the technicians at Puddle.

Level I Pool Inspections: What is Included?

For pool owners it is always a top priority to turn a pool into a fun and safe place for your family, friends, guests and tenants to kick back and relax. This is a noble goal but it is easier said than done. There are plenty of different swimming pool inspections on the market, each with a different goal. Some of these focus on building permits, insurance purposes or other surveys but they don’t answer the most important question: does it work?

A Level I Pool Inspection Service is designed to focus on overall condition and function, as well as potential safety issues in the surrounding area. Having an expert inspect your pool means breaking the assessment process down into multiple steps including: visual inspections, system testing, assessments of surrounding areas.

Your local leak detection company performs in-depth assessments of surface areas, test heaters and circulation systems to ensure that everything is running as it should be. As if this wasn’t enough, Puddle technicians are able to identify struggle components and can point out serious issues like underground leaks.

In the event that there are any issues found, Puddle technicians provide referrals to quality professionals in your area that provide reliable repairs and replacements. Please note that Level  I pool inspections are designed to provide insight and peace of mind but do not come along with a written report.

Cambridge Pool Inspections: Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need a pool permit in Cambridge?

The City of Cambridge requires a permit before installing any swimming pool or hot tub able to hold 76.2 cm (30 in.) of water or more at any point. The pool must be fenced to the City's Fence By-law with lockable gates and no climbable objects outside the enclosure. Contact the Municipal By-law Compliance team for the exact fence specifications.

Can I fill my new pool in Cambridge before the final inspection?

No. Cambridge says water may not be added or kept in a new pool or hot tub until the City gives final approval. The owner or contractor books that inspection, where a By-law Officer checks the fence, lockable gates, climbable objects and setbacks from property lines. Book it before your opening day.

Does a hot tub need a fence in Cambridge?

In Cambridge a hot tub that can hold 76.2 cm of water or more needs a permit, and at final inspection it must have either a compliant fence or a lockable lid. Keeping the lid locked is part of meeting that rule. Confirm with the City's By-law Compliance team before installing.

What does a pool inspection check?

We inspect the safety features, carry out a visual inspection of the structure and liner or surface, check that the equipment works as it should and test the water system. You come away knowing the condition of what is there and what needs attention.

Can you inspect a hot tub or spa at the same time?

Yes. Spas and hot tubs can be inspected alongside the pool or on their own, which is useful when a property has both.
