Fruitland Park Pool Leak Detection

Your swimming pool is made up of many moving parts. For your pool to be healthy, all of these need to be in good, working order and that means free of leaks. Nothing puts a stop to your summer fun faster than a pool leak but fixing them is easier said than done. It might be obvious that your water level is dropping but the source of the leak isn’t! Whether you are dealing with an above ground pool or an inground model, many areas of your swim space are vulnerable to damage and leaks. A pool leak isn’t only dangerous to your swim space, it can have a serious impact on structures and surrounding areas. Don’t wait for a worst-case scenario when you can book an expert instead.

Leak Detection in Pools: Diagnosing Problem Areas

Unfortunately you can’t just visit a pool supply store and walk out with some sort of tool or leak test. In fact, the source of your water leak might be right in front of your eyes and still be totally overlooked. Luckily, there are highly trained Puddle Pros in your area ready to swing into action and stop water loss in its tracks.

There is a big difference between natural water loss and losing water due to a pool leak. High heats and high traffic will cause water to evaporate or be carried out on bodies. At the height of summer you might see anywhere from 3-5 inches of water loss over the course of a week. If you find yourself having to refill water levels on a daily basis it is time to consider a leak.

A bucket test can help to solidify that you are dealing with unnatural water loss. This process involves taking a bucket of water and setting it out next to the poolside. Mark the water level in each and walk away. If the water level in the pool has dropped more than it has in the bucket, you are dealing with a leak. Identifying a pool leak is a great first step to solving the problem but there is a lot more to go before you can cannonball in again.

In order to find a leak, it is important to assess the main areas for damage and water loss: structures and plumbing.

Structural Leaks: Your pool foundations and structures go through a lot over the course of the year. Everything from shifting soil and physical damage can cause cracks in concrete. Bits and pieces of sharp debris can cause tears in pool liners, which are another area for water loss. The best way to track down these leaks is with a dye test. This involves turning off the pool pump and waiting for water to go still. Once still, coloured dyes are strategically placed inside pool water. Dyes weigh more than water so it will be attracted to areas of water loss if there is a pool leak. From there, all you have to do is follow the coloured trail to the source of the problem.

Plumbing Leaks: If you suspect that you are dealing with a leak in your pool plumbing, pressure testing can help you figure it out. A pressure test involves applying a steady stream of air to water lines. In the case of a leak in your pool plumbing, this will form air bubbles which will back up and will be visible in your return lines. If you are dealing with an underground leak, saturated soil will make gurgling sounds that can be tracked down.
