Lily was reliable in responding and informative about what her service can offer. She was also honest about what her service could not do. She spent an afternoon here and more than met our objectives for a cleaner pool and more efficient pump. She was friendly and enthusiastic throughout the process. I would whole-heartedly recommend her service and will hire her again!

Coquitlam Pool Leak Detection

Anytime you are dealing with a leak, it is a big problem. A dripping tap inside is frustrating enough but when your pool is leaking, this becomes even worse. Even a pinhole leak in a swimming pool can mean losing hundreds of litres of water before you even know it. If you are experiencing noticeable water loss and higher than average water bills, call Puddle for your Coquitlam pool leak detection.

Swimming pool leaks are not always detectable all at once but make themselves known over time. The first time you begin to notice water loss, you might just assume that it is normal and refill it with a basic garden hose. This means pouring more water onto an existing problem. A bit of water loss is common due to evaporation, splashing and high traffic in and out of pools, so a few inches over the course of the week is normal. If your pool looses more water than that in a day, that is a real problem. Calling an expert for your swimming pool leak detection at the first sign of trouble will save your structures, reduce your water bill and provide peace of mind.

Leak Detection in Pools: Tracking Down the Problem

Part of what makes leak detection so complicated is that swimming pools are made up of many moving parts. A leak in a pool liner will operate much different from a plumbing leak but in either case, you are losing water fast. Identifying whether or not you have a leak is only step one to solving your problems but it is the most important.

One of the most common ways of testing for a leak is called the bucket test. The bucket test operates by leaving a bucket of water out in the same conditions of the pool. If there is no leak in your swimming pool, the water in the bucket will drop at the same rate at the pool water. If the bucket remains full but the pool has dropped several inches, you are dealing with a leak!

If the bucket test comes back positive and your are noticing increased water loss, it is time to call in the pros. When you want to locate the leak, it is important to first identify whether or not you are dealing with a structural issue or one inside plumbing lines. Structural leaks are more often caused by physical damage and most commonly occur following a storm or weather event.

Pressure testing uses constant air flows inside plumbing. If there are leaks, you will see air bubbles or, in the case of an underground leak in an in-ground pool system, air will displace saturated dirt making a gurgling sound. When testing for structural leaks dye tests can help to point out problem areas. Dye weighs more than pool water and when strategically placed can act as a map to where leaks are located. By cutting the pool pump, water stops circulating and dye will be sucked up by leaking areas like a vacuum.

As a pool owner, you have a lot to focus on. Just maintaining water chemistry and keeping on top of debris can take up a lot of time and energy so it is easy to overlook a small leak. Every small leak will eventually turn into a large one. The longer that a leak is allowed to persist, underground issues will displace soil, creating imbalanced weight dispersal and putting undue strain on internal water systems and will reduce the lifespan of internal components.
