Coquitlam Building Bylaw No. 3598 requires pool drainage and backwash lines to connect to the City sanitary sewer through a sump pump with a backwater valve or indirectly through a 3 inch P trap and standpipe. The City Stream and Drainage System Protection Bylaw also prohibits releasing any waste or deleterious substance into the drainage system. Confirm with the City before draining a pool.

Coquitlam enforces the Metro Vancouver stages through its Drinking Water Conservation Plan Bylaw No. 4838, with Stage 1 running automatically May 1 to October 15.
