Level I Pool Inspections: Getting to Know the Process

There are many different types of pool inspection services in play throughout Canada, each with a different focus. Instead of focusing on permitting or insurance coverage a Level I Pool Inspection focuses on practical aspects like functionality and condition. A swimming pool should be a fun and safe place for your family, friends, tenants and guests to spend time their time but this isn’t possible if you are dealing with leaks, physical damage, broken parts or safety issues.

Any time that a property changes hands it is common practice to have a home inspection done. Home inspectors might be well-versed in dealing with foundations, roofing and even specialties like electrical and plumbing but they aren’t often familiar with swimming pools. Puddle swimming pool inspections perform visual inspections, system and equipment testing and review surrounding areas for any possible safety issues.

If a Puddle Pro spots any problem areas or items in need of repair they will provide references to quality professionals in the area for all of your pool repair needs. Having an expert inspect your pool provides peace of mind to sellers, buyers and real estate agents.

In addition to offering insight into condition, the swimming pool specialists at Puddle offer a wide variety of service options to suit your swim space at any time of year. With pool service options ranging from routine cleaning programs, seasonal treatments, service calls, pool leak detection and more, there is never a bad time to call Puddle Pool Services.

Level I Pool Inspections are designed to provide peace of mind to potential buyers, sellers and homeowners who suspect that their systems aren’t running properly. The overview of these inspections will point out existing issues as well as potential problem areas and includes recommended repairs but does not include a written report.

Niagara Falls Pool Inspections: Frequently Asked Questions

What are the pool fence rules in Niagara Falls?

The City of Niagara Falls Swimming Pool By-law 2014-58 requires a permit and an enclosure at least 1.07 m (42 in.) high around any outdoor pool able to hold 305 mm of water. The fence must be at least 600 mm from the pool wall with no more than 50 mm under it on grass and 100 mm on concrete, and lattice is not allowed. Confirm the details with Building Services before you build.

When can I fill a new pool in Niagara Falls?

Under the City's by-law no water may go into an outdoor pool until the final inspection approves the enclosure. Gates must be self closing and self latching with hardware on the pool side and kept closed and locked whenever the pool is not supervised. A seasonal pool needs this inspection only for its first installation, so book it with the City before filling.

How close to my house can a pool be in Niagara Falls?

The City's by-law bars pools and private spas from front yards and keeps the inside pool wall at least 1.8 m from the main wall of any dwelling and 1.2 m from lot lines. Pumps, filters and heaters also have to stay 1.2 m from lot lines. In ground pools need a sealed lot grading plan with the permit application.

Do I need a separate pool inspection if I already have a home inspection?

Usually yes. A general home inspection often covers a pool only briefly, if at all. A pool inspection looks specifically at the structure, the liner or surface, the equipment and the water system, which is where the expensive surprises tend to be.

What does a pool inspection check?

We inspect the safety features, carry out a visual inspection of the structure and liner or surface, check that the equipment works as it should and test the water system. You come away knowing the condition of what is there and what needs attention.
