What pool enclosure rules apply in Ancaster?
Ancaster follows the City of Hamilton's Swimming Pool Enclosure By-law No. 16-184, as amended, which covers outdoor pools able to hold more than 0.6 m, including hot tubs and landscape ponds. The enclosure needs a building permit and must be at least 1.5 m high and at least 1.0 m from the inside pool wall. Water may not go in until the City gives final approval.
Does a hot tub need a fence in Ancaster?
Not if it has a locked rigid cover able to hold 90 kg, under Hamilton's enclosure by-law. Otherwise a hot tub is treated like a pool and needs the permitted enclosure. Confirm with the City before installing.
How long can a temporary pool fence stay up in Ancaster?
Hamilton's by-law allows a temporary enclosure for up to 7 consecutive days unless the Director authorizes longer. Plan construction so the permanent enclosure is ready and approved before filling.
Will an inspection find leaks?
